Summer Retreat for Labour Theory & Research: Work, Crisis, and Transformation in and beyond Europe
20–24 Juli 2026, Bildungszentrum Mattli, Morschach
The world of work is being reshaped by intersecting crises: socio-ecological breakdown, intensified migration regimes, geopolitical instability, and the reorganisation of global production. These transformations profoundly affect labour relations and relations of care and social reproduction, while also opening possibilities for new forms of organising, solidarity, and collective knowledge production. Critical labour studies offer analytical tools to analyse these changes by foregrounding power, and worker agency, and spatial relations.
This interdisciplinary Summer Retreat for Labour Theory and Research brings together researchers working on labour from critical, feminist, and political economy perspectives. The programme covers six thematic streams: (1) Socio-ecological crisis and labour; (2) Labour migration: (3) Labour and digitalisation; (4) Global production networks (5) Care work and social reproduction, (6) Authoritarianism, Militarisation and Labour.

Inter-congrès AISLF : Saisir et représenter le travail. Enjeux syndicaux, régulations, dynamiques de pouvoir et transformations de la représentation syndicale
29.-30. Oktober, Université de Lisbonne
Ce rendez-vous de Lisbonne invite à s’interroger sur ces différentes modalités d’appropriation, d’expression et de représentation du travail par les acteurs des relations professionnelles, à travers des contributions qui peuvent être théoriques ou empiriques, locales, nationales, internationales ou comparatives. A travers plusieurs axes :
- Les conditions concrètes de la représentation et de l’expression individuelle et collective sur le travail, dans et hors des dispositifs institués ;
- Les articulations et tensions entre liberté de parole, action syndicale, régulation collective, contrôle organisationnel ;
- Les effets de ces processus sur la santé au travail, dont celle des militants syndicaux, la reconnaissance professionnelle, la subjectivité et la citoyenneté au travail ;
- Les recompositions du rôle de l’État, du droit et du management dans la définition des espaces légitimes de représentation et d’expression ;
- Le rôle des universitaires et chercheurs dans la production, l’accompagnement ou la critique de ces dispositifs et le déploiement de recherches-interventions.

38. EAEPE-Conference: Global Transformations of Labour

The theme “Global Transformations of Labour” addresses pressing concerns surrounding the profound changes currently reshaping work worldwide. From the disruptive impact of automation and artificial intelligence to the challenges of democratic participation in economic life, social-ecological transitions, and geopolitical tensions labour is at the heart of global transformations. This year’s conference organizers invite submissions that explore theoretical, historical, empirical, and policy-oriented perspectives on global transformations of labour, especially regarding the following sub-themes:
- Automation, AI, digital platforms, and new forms of labour organization
- Firms and their interaction with labour processes, participation and democratisation; Just social-ecological transition and workers
- Inequalities, standards and industrial action in the labour market
- Wars, military-industrial complexes, and their impact on global labour and value chains
- Any other topics addressing global transformations of labour.

Die Jahrestagung von Laboris richtet den Fokus auf Ansätze, Erfahrungen und Herausforderungen in der engagierten Arbeitsforschung. Auf Basis aktueller Studien diskutieren wir, wie inklusive und partizipative Forschung gelingen kann, welche Fallstricke zu beachten sind und wie sich tragfähige Allianzen zwischen Wissenschaft und zivilgesellschaftlichen Akteur:innen aufbauen lassen. Ziel ist es, Wege aufzuzeigen, wie Forschung aktiv zu positiven gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen beitragen kann.
La journée annuelle de Laboris se concentre sur les approches, les expériences et les défis de la recherche engagée. Sur la base d’études récentes, nous discuterons de la manière dont la recherche éthique et participative peut se dérouler, ainsi que des pièges à éviter. Nous appréhenderons également les conditions nécessaires à la construction d’alliances durables entre la science et les acteurs de la société civile, avec l’objectif de montrer comment la recherche peut contribuer activement à des changements sociaux positifs.

Three full-time postdoc or senior researcher positions in labour geography at the University of Zurich
The Labour Geography Unit at the Department of Geography of the University of Zurich (UZH) invites applications for three full-time postdoc or senior researcher posts. The appointments will be for four years.
The appointees will conduct research in the project “Underemployed” that was awarded an ERC Advanced Grant 2025. They will use qualitative social science methods to better understand the rise of involuntary part-time employment across Europe – with Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom serving as comparative case studies.
